Although I haven't yet started transferring all my info to the new inventory sheet, (that's going to be a major task) it already is so much easier than what I had been doing to keep track of everything. Sometimes, you just don't know what you don't know, until you stumble onto it. I know this is going to get my bookkeepping on the right track finally! And now that I know how to properly and more accurately track sold and unsold inventory costs, I feel better about tax filing data.

This makes inventory manageable.

This inventory spreadsheet is just what I need. I have not been trained to use Excel, so I did not know how to create my own spreadsheet. This makes it easy with color coding and formulas built in. The youtube training videos were very helpful to get started. I did a trial for an accounting program that was designed for crafters, but I could not figure out how to get it to work for me. This spreadsheet is a much better option for my small business.

One change I made has helped me figure out how to include discounts, shipping, and taxes on the materials tabs. I wanted to be able to enter info directly from the receipts and include those extras in the unit costs. I added 4 columns between Shape and Total columns labeled "subtotal, discount, shipping, tax." Adding a formula in the "Total" column did the math for me. This allows me to enter subtotal amounts directly from receipts. I figure a weighted average for the other items, write that on the receipts, then enter on the spreadsheet. I still have to do some calculator work, but this is the only way I could figure out how to include those costs in the unit cost of each item.

I am just starting on the COGM tab. I need to figure out an easy way for me to enter my itemized material for each bag that I made. I make handbags that may use several materials: cork, canvas, lining, interfacing, zippers, hardware, webbing. My "batches" are small, 2-12 bags, and some bags use more materials than others. I think I will need to keep a handwritten notebook with itemized lists for each type of bag that I make. This will help me figure out what pieces I need on the spreadsheet. COGM is the next part that I will work on.

Exactly what I needed to get my finances in order!

These spreadsheets are a LIFE SAVER! When I was initially trying to get my finances in order (with the help of my husband) it was causing a lot of undue stress! We weren't exactly clear on how to keep everything straight, we weren't sure what to do with the information the CVS from Etsy gave us, we weren't sure how to accurately keep track of my inventory.....we were just lost! Janet lays everything out very clearly in her videos, so that you can CONFIDENTLY set your finances up and actually understand what you're doing!
